YT Summary ("we", "our", or "the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that summarizes YouTube video transcripts using AI. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account information: If you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your email address solely to manage your subscription and usage quota.
• Custom prompts: Any custom AI prompts you create are stored locally in your browser's chrome.storage and are not transmitted to our servers except when included in an AI summary request.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• YouTube video transcripts: When you click "Summarize," the Extension extracts the transcript from the current YouTube video page. This transcript is sent to our AI processing service to generate the summary.
• Usage data: We track the number of summary requests per day to enforce usage quotas. We do not track which specific videos you watch or summarize.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

• Browsing history or watch history
• Audio or video content from YouTube
• Personal files or screen content
• Cookies from third-party websites
• Keystrokes, mouse movements, or form data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• AI summary generation: Video transcripts are sent to our AI service (powered by OpenAI) to generate summaries based on your custom prompt.
• Translation services: If you use the translation feature, transcript segments are sent to our translation API to provide translated subtitles.
• Subscription management: Your email address is used to identify your account, manage your subscription plan, and enforce daily usage limits.
• Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage statistics (e.g., total number of summaries generated) may be used to improve the service.

4. Data Storage & Retention

4.1 Local Storage

The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.session):

• Your custom AI prompts and settings
• Translation preferences (language, subtitle color, font size)
• Extension configuration (selected AI model, output language)

Session-based data (such as the current video's transcript) is stored in chrome.storage.session and is automatically cleared when you close the browser.

4.2 Server-Side Storage

We do not maintain a database of your transcripts or summaries on our servers. When a summary is generated, the transcript is sent to the AI for processing, the response is returned to your browser, and the data is not retained on our infrastructure.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension integrates with the following third-party services:

• OpenAI API: Used to generate AI summaries of video transcripts. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to data processed through their API. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
• Google OAuth: Used for user authentication. Only your email address is accessed. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• ExtensionPay: Used to process subscription payments. Payment information is handled directly by ExtensionPay and is never stored by us. See ExtensionPay's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is only shared with third-party services as described in Section 5, and only to the extent necessary to provide the Extension's functionality.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

• All API communications are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
• Local data is stored using Chrome's sandboxed storage APIs, inaccessible to other extensions or websites.
• We do not store sensitive data (passwords, payment details) on our servers.

8. Your Rights & Controls

You have full control over your data:

• View & edit settings: All Extension settings can be viewed and modified from the settings page.
• Delete local data: You can clear all locally stored data by uninstalling the Extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage.
• Export transcripts: You can export transcripts as .txt files for your own records.
• Cancel subscription: You can cancel your paid subscription at any time from the settings page.

9. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at nguyentienm@gmail.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
